I like the part where all the pieces finally click.

A picture lands. A sound hits at just the right moment. A pause lasts half a beat longer than expected. Suddenly, something that was just a collection of shots becomes a story. That’s the part of editing that still gets me. I’m fascinated by rhythm, timing, performance, music, sound, and all the strange little decisions that can completely change the way something feels. I’m also a little obsessed with sound and have been known to record my own rather than reach for a library. I still have a soft spot for analog gear, too. As an ’80s kid, I like things that click, whir, buzz, and occasionally refuse to cooperate.

I’m a native Texan with more than 20 years of California experience—still can’t surf, though. After earning my film degree from the University of Texas at Austin, I headed west to Los Angeles and built a career working with some incredibly talented editors, post houses, agencies, directors, and clients. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to work on everything from commercials and music videos to documentaries and short films, including campaigns such as Apple’s “Mac vs. PC,” the iPod Silhouettes, and the original BMW Films. After ten years as a Sr. Editor at General Editorial in Santa Monica and five years as a Senior Editor at Swingset Productions in Long Beach, I’m now based in Fort Worth and bringing that experience to the growing Texas production community and beyond.

The best part of this job has always been the people and the constant opportunity to learn. I’m happiest in a room where I’m still learning something. Every project brings a different set of problems to solve, and that’s what keeps it all interesting. I love collaborating, experimenting, and occasionally taking the long way around if it leads somewhere unexpected. After all these years, I still genuinely like sitting down in front of an edit and figuring out what makes the story work. And if there’s an opportunity to sneak an obscure ’80s pop-culture reference into the process, even better.
